.303 SMLE No 1
Mk 3 |
|
 |
Scarce
mounted Yeomanry or Light Horse (local pattern)
conversion adopted for Palestinian service
in 1915 by the Australians. One of approx
500 produced and only two other known examples
(as identified by the late Peter Fox). Bayonet
boss and piling swivell boss to nose cap
removed, charger bridge removed and infill
fitted, sling swivels repositioned to rifle
side for cavalry use. All modified components
stamped with inspectors mark. Rifle in moderate
condition but is scarce and historically
significant. Ex DLI museum. £350

Dated
1890 and captured by the Boers from the
British, it was recaptured by the DLI and
Northumbrian fusiliers. Stock has been shortened,
long range sights removed and 'JJK REITZ
1900' within a heart carved into the butt.
A unique piece of history from the DLI museum. £650
